Makeup Mag News: L'Oréal USA Pulls Shu Uemura from U.S. Stores

"Another popular cosmetic brand is leaving United States department stores and boutiques: L'Oréal USA has announced it will phase out retail operations for Shu Uemura in the coming months. According to L'Oréal USA representatives, the decision was based on the brand's relatively low stateside sales.

"Shu Uemura is a unique and vibrant brand, but it represents a very small part of our luxury business," said Carol Hamilton, president of L'Oréal USA's luxury division, in a statement. "We decided that L'Oréal USA would be better served by focusing on our other strategic luxury brands like Lancôme, Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Kiehl's and fragrances."

Because L'Oréal USA declined to disclose sales numbers for specific brands, it's not clear how Shu Uemura sales compared to those of other L'Oréal-owned luxury brands." Read the full story here...

Tutorial: Neutral Golds & a Pop of Teal

Simple & pretty.
I posted this look March 13th, and I decided to re-do it and post a tutorial for it. This is one of my favorite "simple/neutral" looks that I've done. Enjoy!

Step 1: Apply Urban Decay's Primer Potion all over your lid.

Step 2: Using a flat fluffy eyeshadow brush, apply the first colour in L.A. Colour's Tea Time palette all your your lid and blend upwards.

Step 3: Using the same fluffy brush, apply the third colour from the Tea Time palette just above your crease. Blend it out.

Step 4: Use a thin eyeliner brush to apply Maybeline's Gel Liner in Blackest Black on your upper lashline. Create a small wing.

Step 5: Curl your lashes.

Step 6: Spoolie out your lashes. This step is optional.

Extra Tip: If you don't own a spoolie, you can use an old mascara wand that has been cleaned!

Step 7: Using the same eyeliner brush and Maybeline's Gel Liner, apply it to your tightline.

Step 8: Apply LÓreal Paris' Telescopic Explosion mascara to your lashes.

Step 9: Apply NYX Cosmetic's eyelashes in Dream Catcher.

Step 10: Curl your lashes again. This step helps make the false eyelashes look more natural.

Step 11: Apply a good coat of Urban Decay's 24/7 Shadow Pencil in Clash to your waterline. Make sure to get enough product on, we really want this colour to pop!

Step 12: Apply Bourjois Paris' Coup de Theatre mascara in Bleu Spectaculaire to your lower eyelashes. Finished!

Fire Bird Inspired Makeup on Jane

L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara Review, Pictures

  • Packaging: The mascara comes in a tall black triangular tube with red text. The wand is black, and has a flexible connection (red) to the applicator.
  • Product:  The mascara is very "inky". The mascara is easy for application, and the applicator is a funky way of really separating your lashes while applying the mascara.
    • Carbon Black: is a dark black colour. It's not the blackest of the shades, but I really like this shade because it looks almost more natural, but it's still dramatic on the eyes. It doesn't have an "offensive" smell, and it doesn't clump.
  • Final Thoughts:  This is one of my new favorite mascaras. It's a decent price, and the quality is awesome! The wand is funky and fun, and it's available in three different shades.
  • Availability:  $9, Shoppers Drug Mart
